While Varsano’s Chocolates, 179 W. 4th [6th/7th]
352.1171, sells truffles and filled chocolate bon bons, they also sell fun
chocolates. Marc Varsano, the candy maker on site, has invented a
neighborhood favorite, – the CPR – a pretzel stick that has been coated
with caramel before it is dipped in chocolate. Mr. Varsano says that
people who like fun chocolates prefer milk or white chocolate to dark
chocolate, and to accommodate them he does a pretzel drizzle – a milk
chocolate covered pretzel that is drizzled with white chocolate. Other
pretzels may be doused in chocolate and studded with M & M’s. His
version of the $100,000 bar is something he calls the $10,000,000 bar –
Rice Krispies mixed with caramel and covered in milk chocolate. Peanut
butter cups here are freshly made as are the coconut clusters and home
made marshmallows turn up in a chocolate square. Look also for their
cranberry cashew bark.
